Summer Road-Tripping with the Scotties

ON A PERSONAL NOTE: Visitors to our office often comment on the cast iron Scottie dog statues.

While our Scottie dogs do not come to our office, we share a special fondness for animals—especially our two Scotties named Wooster and Bertie.

Recently, we all traveled to Wisconsin to attend the Door County Scottie Rally, an event dedicated to Scottish Terrier health, rescue, and community. For those new to the breed, Scotties are instantly recognizable thanks to their unique look and personality. And they like road trips.

The rally featured a lively parade — think people and dogs — with a pipe and drum corps. Dogs competed in various contests, and the event’s fundraiser helped raise money for Scottie medical care. It’s a great sense of community with caring people who enjoy the benefits – both physical and emotional – of being dog owners.

People sometimes ask how our fascination with Scotties began. It started when Roz Carothers bought a stuffed animal at a bookstore for her daughter, and the clerk remarked that it resembled her own puppy which, sadly, she couldn’t afford to keep. Shortly after, Roz adopted the dog; it was her first Scottie, Fritz.

After Fritz passed away, Wooster and later Bertie—both Wheaten Scotties—joined the family. Wooster underwent successful heart surgery at Ohio State University as only a puppy and was noted as the smallest dog ever to have the procedure there.

We like to think we care for our clients and our dogs with dedication and passion, finding satisfaction in helping and supporting them every day.
