As Madison celebrates her one-year anniversary with the firm, we are grateful for the dedication, perspective, and care she brings to our clients and colleagues. To mark this milestone, we are pleased to share a closer look at what inspires Madison, what drives her work, and what makes her such a valued member of our team.
Q. What attracted you to the field of law and estate planning?
A. I knew I wanted to go to law school when I was in high school. While several of my classes sparked my interest in the law, personal experiences ultimately inspired me to pursue a career helping families navigate it. I grew up in a blended family and was very close with my grandparents, so family has always been incredibly important to me. I knew I wanted a career where I could help families protect and plan for the people they love.
I was introduced to estate planning through a law school clinic, and I quickly found that it was the right fit for me. As someone who has always loved reading and writing, I enjoy the detail and thoughtfulness that goes into drafting estate planning documents, but what I love most is knowing that the work we do can give families greater peace of mind.
Q. What is the most interesting place you have visited?
A. One of the most memorable places I’ve visited is Ghana, where I studied abroad and had the opportunity to teach fourth grade. I loved immersing myself in a new culture and experiencing everyday life from a different perspective. Working with the children was especially meaningful and made the experience one I’ll always remember.
Q. What book or movie would you recommend to others?
A. Two of my favorite novels are Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I was an English major at Centre College and I’ve always loved literature, particularly 19th-century English novels. And if you’re looking for a movie recommendation, the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorites!
Q. If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?
A. Charlotte Brontë and Jane Austen would certainly be at the top of my list, but I think I would ultimately choose Taylor Swift. While she is best known as a singer and entertainer, I’m most fascinated by her writing. Outside of the context of music, fame, and popularity, I think her writing is incredibly poetic, thoughtful, and emotionally honest. She has jokingly referred to herself as an English teacher, and I would happily sign up for a lesson!
Q. What is a fun fact about you that we might not know?
A. My family’s favorite place to vacation is Colorado. We love skiing in the winter, but the summer and fall are just as beautiful and offer plenty to do. Our favorite town is Steamboat Springs, which has become a special place for our family. If you haven’t been, I highly recommend checking it out!
